Annual Charles A. Stuart Memorial Lecture

The annual Stuart Lecture commemorates the late Charles A. Stuart, a professor of biology from 1893-1962.

The Charles A. Stuart Memorial Lectureship was established in 1963 in memory of the great Dr. Charles A. Stuart.

Dr. Stuart came to Brown University as an undergraduate student in 1914 and stayed on as a graduate student and faculty member until his retirement in 1960. Dr. Stuart was THE Professor of Microbiology. He did wide-ranging research on pathogenic microorganisms, particularly the enterobacteriaceae. He became recognized as a national leader in bacteriology and immunology. When Dr. Stuart died in 1962, The Brown University Medical School was about to be started. His family and friends suggested a lectureship in his honor and it was decided to make this outstanding lecture series , known today as the Annual Charles A. Stuart Memorial Lectureship. The list of past lecturers contain some of the most distinguished scientists in the fields of microbiology and immunology.
